Mod 4: High Beams
This one is fairly simple, but a worthy upgrade in my opinion. The Toyota 4Runners are not best-known for their amazing headlights, so I figured I would do what I could to put some more light down the road at night. This upgrade in lighting came in two parts. The first one was a cheap upgrade to the high beam bulbs, and the second will be elaborated on in another post.
Stock Toyota 4Runners use socket 9005 bulbs for their high beams. These are fine bulbs, but you can replace them with 9011 bulbs for about $25. All it takes is a little bit of modification to the base of the bulb socket and you can slot them in to the factory plugs. 9011 bulbs work fine with 4Runner’s high-beam DRL system and they provide about a 20% increase in lumen output over the factory bulbs, so that’s a win for me!
